This installation was concerned with how an unfamiliar land impacts on the life, work and memory of a migrant.

As an artist and a migrant working in regional Queensland Sally is constantly drawing from memory to consruct bridges to past experiences, and find parallels in my immediate environment.

The installation was inspired by a research trip to Greece in 2000 where she participated in the International Lawrence Durrell Conference on Corfu.

Sally used the title 'Losing Alexandria' as a methaphor for a place and identity that has been lost and also as a symbol for multiculturalism.

The installation explored the myth through time and space and the geography of memory. Sally is concerned with the archetypal symbols of the collective unconscious to which she tries to give a concrete form.
