Mother India

The installation is a celebration of the Feminine principle as exemplified by Indian culture in its sensuality and the voluptuous nature of its carvings and temples. The installation looks at images and symbols from Indian history that have influenced and impacted on contemporary western life.

This includes a series of figures in Yoga postures, the ancient ‘Tree of Life’ and a collection of Fertility Goddesses inspired by the Bronze Age, Harappa Civilization. Also the influence left by the conquests, of ‘Alexander the Great’ on the Buddhas of the early centuries AD.

The installation is multi-media with a strong clay component in the form of sculptures. There is a collection of wall displays inspired by Indian paintings.
